With so many digital cameras available at affordable prices, there should really be no excuse to grab one from your local gadget store.

Even the most budget models are good enough for taking hundreds of photos in a single session and the quality should be good enough for sharing with friends and family online. But one of the features that most ordinary digital cameras lack is a waterproof design.

Don’t bother taking your favorite camera for a swim and take underwater pictures because your camera won’t work unless it has that waterproof spec. Certain models have waterproof casings which you have to buy separately but there is a high chance that the case won’t be compatible with your model. If it happens to be, you might have to pay a considerable amount.

Then you still have to place the camera in the case which can be tricky. Rather than purchasing a separate digital camera or waterproof accessory, you can go for a disposable camera instead. Waterproof disposable cameras sound non-existent but that is where the Fujifilm Quick Snap waterproof camera comes in.

Fujifilm Quick Snap Specifications

The Fujifilm Quick Snap waterproof camera or QuickSnap Marine for short is a compact camera with 73×133 mm dimensions and a 44 mm thickness. Its compact size also makes it pretty lightweight weighing just 170g. It uses a 32mm f/10 lens with a 1/125 second shutter speed. Although this lens is fixed focus, it does make up by using the FUJICOLOR SUPERIA X-TRA800 film. Film photography is heading to the obsolete realm but it still has its advantages.

The Good

From its name, the QuickSnap Marine features a transparent O-ring case. It seals all of the sensitive components including the mechanism and film so no sand, dirt, dust, water, and humidity can enter the device. The transparent design lets you see these components intact.

For a cheap and disposable camera, the outer covering is quite durable. But the Fujifilm Quick Snap waterproof is not just an ordinary disposable camera that can survive accidental drops in the water. This is actually a camera that you can take with you underwater and take clear pictures of what lies beneath.

As long as water is clear, you should be able to snap some decent photos. Thanks to the SUPERIA X-TRA 800 film, you can also take good underwater shots during overcast conditions thanks to the added sensitivity. You should be able to go as deep as 10 meters which isn’t really bad for a waterproof camera.

The shutter button is also oversized making it easy even for the younger folks to take underwater snapshots. There is also a film advance knob mounted on top of the camera so it is easily accessible even if you are wearing gloves. In order to prevent yourself from losing the camera underwater, Fujifilm equipped the QuickSnap Marine with a rubber wrist strap.

The Fujifilm Quick Snap waterproof camera has sunny exposure conditions as well so you can still use the camera for taking quick photos out in the open. The sharpness is decent and the colors are vivid. Since you are not dealing with a digital camera, you won’t have to worry so much about artifacts and missing details due to compression. This is one of the few reasons why film photography is still superior to digital photography especially if you take things to a budget level and if you want to print these photos out.

Finally, the Fujifilm Quick Snap waterproof camera is highly affordable costing less than $16. Some stores may even sell it for less than $10. You may even be able to save money if you buy a pack of these cameras to compensate for the limited 27 exposures.

The Bad

The 27 exposures limit the use of the camera and you still have to take it to a studio that can process the film. But if you already have a digital camera, it would be much better to dedicate your Fujifilm Quick Snap waterproof camera for underwater usage. This way, you can use all 27 shots for different underwater scenes and use your digital camera for taking other photos. Once you have developed these photos, you need to scan them if you want to share them online which can take time.
